Wendy's Weigh In

I am so proud of everyone this week you have all done so well. Me, not so much! I kept faithfully to my 1400 calories and 50 grams of fiber. I wasn't able to do all my excercises Mon, tues, Wed, but I made up for it on the weekend. I did 2 hours on Thursday, 1 1/2 hours on Friday. (Taun I can see how you can become addicted to it!). BUT, I GAINED 2 POUNDS! That stinks, but I had fun and felt so content with myself in counting calories and fiber and I am sore in places I forgot I had muscles in! Maybe next week will show a better weight loss. This is not supposed to be easy!
WEndy

Cheya's weigh in 1/31

140.5
Lost 1.5 pounds.
Next week I hope to be in the 130s!

Dacia's Weigh-in

starting weight: 156.2
week 1 weigh-in: 152.2

This week my (calories in - calories out) = 10,000, so I should 've lost almost three lbs...and I lost 4! I know that 4th pound was probably just water weight (I got dehydrated at dance), but I'm still going to try to get into the 140's by next weigh-in!

**rice cakes (40 cal) satisfy the munchy crunchy craving

** Corn tortillas (shells) are fat free and have only 30 cals!

Taunia's Weigh in

I lost 2 lbs this week, for a total of 10 lbs. Every 10 lbs I have to reward myself. My reward this 10 lbs is $8 mascara. WA HOO ! I hardly ever buy expensive mascara and when I do Havana usually swipes it.(bless her heart)
I have never counted calories before so this was an eye opener. I started tracking with My fitness pal that Cheya set up for a few years before. It's great. I am not getting enough calories if you can believe that, barely over 1000 calories. So I will up my calories a bit so I am not in starvation mode. Dacia gave me her equipment she is not using. I am excited to see how much cardio I can get in this week. We watched the Miss America pageant last night and got all excited for Miss utah for Ken. Usually we have a big pig out with eveything imaginable. Last night we had a fruit tray with low cal yogurt dip and it was YUMMY! I hope you are all feeling noble! Have a great week!

Britt's weigh-in

I finally made it to the 150's!

159 today, Woo Hoo!

Call Me Crazy But....

I've decide to compete in a sprint triathlon. Needing further motivation, I went looking for a 5k then figured I could to a 10K, then found out Vernal hosts the icebreaker Triathlon on April 3rd (the day before my last weigh-in). I don't swim well, so this will really be a challenge. And the thought of getting in a swimming suit will surely be motivating!

How to Eat Right in a Crisis?

So we keep having one health crisis right after the other. I have to figure out how to eat right even when things get so hard. I didn't worry once about weight as I sat by Talen's hospital bed (who could?), but I have gained 2.5 lbs. I am now 156. The good news is Talen is gaining his health back, slowly but surely. We have family staying with us for Talen's baptism on the 5th - 7th, yay! (but I can't exactly serve them my usual spinach and mushrooms and then excuse myself to run my guts out for an hour). Then we have another hospital stay coming up for the tonsilectomy on the 10th - 12th. So, my lofty goals are settling down into reality. They are:

---make time for my cardio by a MAJOR lifestyle change: get to bed by 10:30pm and get up at 5:30AM to run. Looking at my life right now, I think this is the only way.

---still track every calorie. For me, weight loss is impossible if I don't track.

---replace 2 meals with protein shakes so: Breakfast, shake, Lunch, shake, Dinner = 1400 cals

---lose 20 lbs by April 4th. I'll then set a new goal and strategy to loose the last 8 lbs and lower my body fat.

Running does burn the most calories. Has anybody considered running a 5K race?

Greek yogurt

I have been following the Biggest Loser Cookbook and Greek yogurt shows up as a snack quite frequently, but it is so expensive. I went online to figure out what was so great about Greek yogurt:

Greek yogurt is a great source of protein with almost twenty grams on average per eight ounce serving. Compare this to the typical nine to 13 grams seen in most standard yogurts

Despite its high protein content, Greek yogurt is lower in carbohydrates than most standard commercial yogurts making it a good choice for keeping blood sugar levels under control. The fat-free version is also low in calories, with only 120 calories per eight ounce serving. Other health benefits of Greek yogurt include lower sodium content than standard yogurt – usually almost half as much as in most non-Greek brands

The only drawback is that it does have a slightly lower calcium content.

And the best part is you can make your own!

All you need to do is line a colander with cheesecloth.
Dump a container of plain yogurt into the cheesecloth and let the whey drain from the yogurt for 24 hours in the refrigerator. The consistency of the yogurt will be similar to sour cream when it is finished.

I'm ok with this

I didn't lose an ounce this week, but I doubled my cardio and really intensified my weight lifting. I had my own personal Jillian a couple of times this week. She told me to do one more and I didn't think I could. She said do it NOW mom and I did. We really have so much more inside than we think. So I am not disappointed in no weight loss this week because I can feel muscle where I have not felt muscle for along time. I am stronger this week than last week and next week I will be a little more. So phooey on the scales. sometimes we have to be our own judge on our progress.
161
I am down 4.5 since we started :)

Bombed it big time...

It all started with Riley's sleep over. I let them go to the pound store and get some junk for the night. Unfortunately they got a lot of chocolate. I discovered I'm am such a chocolaholic, something I always knew, but proved it without question this weekend. I had no will power whatsoever, I was as bad as a recovering alcoholic with a glass in front of them. I started by saying, I will allow myself to have one square of a toblerone. haha yeah right! Needless to say, I gave into temptation way to easily and I didn't quite till it was gone. I learned a valuable lesson, don't have it in the house and don't take just one bite.

Weight 1/24/10
142...still...but a deserved still.

I can't mess up anymore or I won't make my goal. I don't have another week to loose because I don't think I can loose 2 pounds a week for consecutive weeks.

My tool this week will be prayer.

Anybody Out There???

Hey guy, I just thought of a theme song for myself!
Talking to myself and feeling old (and fat).
Sometimes I'd like to quit!
Nothin ever seems to fit (especially my pants)!
Hangin around, nothing to do but frown.
Weighing in on Sundays always gets me down.

Last week I said I would be happy just to get into the 140's again. I did. I lost 1/2 a pound. I now weigh 149 1/2. I guess I need to set some loftier goals!

This week I will (cross my fingers) exercise everyday and get at least 50 grams of fiber daily.
Talk to me!!
Love you!
Wendy

Fiber drink

After my last post I started to look up fiber content of the things I usually eat. I discovered that my morning drink that I start my day out with has 12 grams of fiber and only 60 calories! It has the consistency of mud but it's good for me! I have been taking psyllium husks, fresh ground flax meal, and ground Cinnamon. 1 Tablespoon of each in a big glass of water. Then I put 1 tablespoon of turmeric in a glass of water and drink that afterward. I'm not hungry for hours after that! I was taking these things for other health reasons, but was happy to discover the high number of fiber grams it has.

Quick fix for Sickness

Here is something else I learned last week. I took a class on essential oils and learned about a method to stop illness before it gets a strong footing. It is called the French Intensive Method.
Viruses and bacteria replicate every 20 min. When you begin to feel sick you treat yourself with the oils every 15 min for 2 hours, then every 30 min. for 2 hours, then every hour for the rest of the day. This will stop the bugs before they can ever make you really ill.
Yesterday I woke up with a sore throat and sinuses and an ear ache. I did this method, although it wasn't perfect (I missed a few doses) and today my ear ache and sore throat are gone. I still feel a little off, but have so much more energy than I did yesterday.
Hope this will help you!

High Fiber Helps Weight loss

One thing I learned, or re-learned at the health fair was that high fiber will help with weight loss. It will also help regulate blood sugar. Diabetics can even reverse their disease by following a very high fiber diet. The rule is your age plus 10 for how many grams of fiber you need each day. It will also prevent many other diseases including heart disease and cancer. I am challenging each of you to find out the amount of fiber you are getting daily and find ways to increase it so that you are getting your daily requirements.
Let's go!!

Are you kidding me?

After being really sick and not eating for two days and very little on the weekdays I didn't loose an ounce this week. I only worked out twice though, but I thought by lack of eating would make up for it. This week I am focusing on reaching my target heart rate during cardio and I have...sit down if you need to...actually enjoyed cooking healthy meals this week. I hope to loose a pound.

Taunia's weigh in

Weight-----164 lbs
I learned a valuable lesson this week "slow and steady wins the race" I will take the one pound loss and be grateful. I am excited for you to share what you learned Wendy. Thanks for your imput everyone. Of all the times I have tried and failed to be stong and disciplined, this family effort makes it enjoyable. Have a great week!!
Taunia

Impressive Dacia

I am so impressed that you can run at 5.3 for 45 min.! I hope I can get up to that!
Wendy

Wendy's weekly weigh in

Hi All,
I lost 1 pound this week. Although it isn't much I felt really good about my focus. I injured my leg again and was not able to exercise like I wanted, but I was able to find ways to stay focused on my goal and do everything I could. I was good on my diet! There is something so satisfying about being in control, of telling yourself "no" and listening! One thing that has helped me is to change my inner voice. Instead of saying "I'm so hungry or this is so hard" I tell myself "Nothing of value is easy. This is meant to be hard." I am beginning to see that I am still made of bricks and not straw!
Our Stake had a Health Fair yesterday and I learned so much. I want to share it with all of you, but I will do it in small chunks so as to not overwhelm. Our stake is all working together to get in shape, lose weight and improve our health. In October we will be doing a triathlon I don't expect to do the whole thing, but I would like to be a participant in it. Our Stake Goal for this month is "Early to bed, early to rise."

This weeks Goals:
I weigh 150. My goal is to be in the 140's next week. I'll be happy with any number in the 140's!
This week I am going to read over the material from the Health Fair and implement 2 things I learned and share them with you.
I will be in bed by 11:00 and up at 6:15.
Good luck you all!
Love ya,
Wendy

Poop on Free days!!! (sorry for the word Wend)

The diet I have been following is so restrictive that part of the plan is a free day. Well, I couldn't stand not knowing what my free day did to me, I got on the scales......5 lbs. I thought I was going to die. I have been working all week to take off the 5 lbs I gained on my free day, so I don't know what weigh in tomorrow will bring. I was so excited for my last chance work out and I woke up with my arthritis in a flare up. It sounds like we have had a challenging week all of us, but we are all winners for hanging in there and not giving up! I love that we are not just dieting. we are learning to control our apppetites and passion ( for chocholate) YEAH US!!! lI will finish today with the diet I have been on, then I will do 1400 calories and see if I can not do the yo-yo thing. To lean, strong and beautiful us!

Slow Take Off But Still in the Game!

I was so gung-ho, then the stomach flu hit my kids for 10 days!!! It's was brutal, but the worst is over. I didn't run or "lift" at all and my diet was random (whatever I could grab with the arm that wasn't holding a puking baby). I'm disappointed, but not discouraged at all. This is going to be a way of life for me and not just a diet. The kids will get sick again and I'll get off track. I'm going to try even harder to catch up to everybody and not do the start-over-on-monday thing. I'll weigh-in on Sundays, so I can have a last chance work-out on Saturday!

Favorite low cal low sodium breakfast (or lunch):

Egg Fritata
scramble 2 eggs and 2 egg whites
add Mrs Dash Original

saute 1 cup of fresh sliced mushrooms
and 2 cups of fresh spinach on cooking spray
1/2 diced tomato
add the above to the eggs
top with 1/4 cup fat free cheese

Under 300 calories!

A little tip:
Watch Your Sodium Intake! It will make your weight fluctuate.
I try to stay under 2200mg (1500 - 2400 is recommended daily allowance)

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I haven't been very diligent in my exercise this week. Both the kids have double ear infections and sleep has become non-existent in our house. I feel like a zombie with a crying child on each hip :) I have been doing pretty well with my eating, but I am not expecting the scale to move much this week. Oh well, such is life.

My Favorite breakfast

I love to take 1/2 cup plain low fat yogurt and sweeten it with Stevia. You can buy different flavored Stevia. I love the English Toffee. It has no calories. I cut up an apple and add a few strawberrys or other fruits and sprinkle granola on top. If I want to add protein I put in 10 almonds.
yogurt--60 calories
fruit--75 to 100
granola--30
almonds--70
For under 300 calories I get a nutritinally balanced breakfast and it really satisfies my sweet tooth! I eat this for a evening time snack if I haven't had too much to eat during the day.
Wendy

Granola

One of my favorite breakfast food is granola and yogurt. After tracking my calories I realized granola has 300 calories in a cup and that's without yogurt! Wow...looks like I might find another favorite.

Not again!

I got back in the gym on Monday and woke up Tuesday with another pulled muscle and I wasn't even trying to be turbo woman! Today for my cardio I had to just bounce on an exercise ball! I got my heart rate up to a whopping 75! Wha hoo!
Wendy

Darn Rancid Chicken

Well I'm not having a good start. Yesterday it was too icy to run anywhere, was going to ice skate to the gym, but couldn't find my gym card to get me in. I missed the hour window I had to workout without kids. So I decided to have lunch and then do a ballet bar instead. Within 2 hours after lunch I was feeling pretty sick but decided to muscle through my errands so I could get home and exercise. By the time I got home I was so sick I could barely walk up the stairs to my bed. Must have been food poisoning from my chicken sandwich. Still sick today but feeling better and really weak. I swear I'm very close to going vegetarian. At least I puked most of my calories yesterday right? Lame!!

Supplements

Hey everyone,
I would love to know if you are taking supplements.
I have found a few things that have really helped me and would like to know what you have found.
I take:
Calcium, magnisium and silica for bones, ligaments and tendons--my joints feel so much better if I take this regularly.
Coconut oil--helps to burn fat and is the healthiest oil especially for cooking.
Cinnamon and turmeric for inflammation.
Ground flax seed and psyllium--omega's and fiber.
Vinegar and honey--Taun, what am I taking this for??? I can't remember!
Please share with me what you know!
Love ya,
Wendy

Wendy's Weekly Weigh in

I Weighed in today at 151
Lost 2.5 lbs.
I did not complete my fitness goals this week because of my leg injury, but it is almost normal today and I am excited to see what I can lose next week doing all my exercises!
Have a great week!
Love you all
Wendy

WA-HOO FOR ME!!

WA-HOO FOR ME!!!S
seriously this was a tough week for me. The diet I followed was hard, but soooo worth it. I weighed in at 165 lbs today. That is 7 lbs for me this week!!! I don't know that I can keep that up and I am sure I should't.
Kenna kicked my bummy at the gym the other day, it seriously hurts to breathe. I have a personal Jillian. So my plan for this week is body for life. I have done this plan before and it works for me. Carb and protein 6x's a day. I will not limit my carbs to only vegetable. I will add good grains and fruit.
For my work out I am going to try up-ping my cardio and pushing myself harder this week. I feel pretty darn good. My arthritis is lessening I think I am ready to do more intensive cardio work outs. Yeah! Wend, I don't think I will put the incline at 12 and run 5 miles an hour. I am so proud of you for being hard core. I hope everyone felt good about what they accomplished this week. Here is to lean, strong, healthy, beautiful US!!! YEAH!!!

Cheya's weigh in and plan of attack

Current weight 143
Goal weight 133 by March 26th (the start of our Barcelona trip)
(although I would love to be under 130 but I'm not sure that is reasonable so I'm trying 133 first, when I make it there I will see if there is more to loose and do it by our Utah trip.) I would love to feel hot in a swimming suit and not motherly. So with that said, I am more concerned about measurements than actual weight.

Ugh...so I have been at this my current weight for about 2 years always thinking I'm right around the corner to my ideal weight but never actually getting there...UNTIL NOW! I'm really excited about this blog because I need some accountability and motivation and I think this give me just the thing.

Plan of attack
-I will track my caloric intake and calories burn on myfitnesspal.com now made easier through and app on my phone.
-I will not eat junk (for me that's sweets)
-I will not eat past dinner
-3 hours of cardio and 2 hours of weights a week

This week:
There is this turbo runner lady at the gym that runs like a mad woman for about an hour or two a day. She's probably about 36 and she has the buffest yet feminine body that just won't quit. I WILL BE HER! I'll run like there's no tomorrow, I'll keep focused, and pound it out for an hour. That's in my dreams...in reality I will probably get 20 minutes on the treadmill running before passing out. So as an alternative because I am not yet Turbo Runner Lady, I will walk/run for an hour Mon, Wed, Fri. Weights on Tues and Thurs. (keep in mind I'll run to the gym everyday so that will break up the monotonous time on the treadmill) I have downloaded an app that will give me endless conference talks to listen too for entertainment as well.

Wendy's Woeful Beginnings

OK guys! I was so ready to tear it up this week and started out strong. Well maybe a little too strong. I hurt my leg on Tuesday running on the tread mill at a 12 percent incline and 5.4 speed. I felt so cool! I was out running both the women next to me on the other tread mills and they were younger than me by a long shot! They are probably at the gym right now and I am stuck on the couch with my leg elevated.
I've had to revise my goals!
The first is that I will remember that I don't have to do everything at full throttle. I will learn moderation!
I weighed in at 153.5 and would love to weigh 125 again. That was my favorite weight!
I will not measure any part of my body!!! But I have a variety of pant sizes in my closet and my first goal is to fit into my size 10s again.
I will do 30 min. cardio 6 days a week. On Mondays, and Thursdays. I will add 30 min. arms and back exercises. In Tuesdays and Fridays, stomach and legs. On Wed. I will add an additional 30 on cardio. Saturdays I am challenging myself to find a fun and different way to get my exercise.
I am not sure yet about my diet. I really want to take it slowly and make small permanent changes that will last a life time.
The first change I made was 3 years ago when I stopped eating refined sugar. That was the best thing I have ever done. I plan on continuing this. Still working out what I want to do next!
Love you all! Good Luck! I know we can do this!

Don't get discouraged!

Yesterday I was hungry ALL day and had absolutely no energy. I felt a little discouraged. I had a little bit of protein before I went to bed. I woke up feeling great. So I am off to the gym!!

Taunia's first weigh in!!

Weight.....a whopping 172 lbs!
goal (please don't laugh)....120 lbs.

My plan of attack:
1) a carb and a protein 6x's a day. The first week no bread or starches.
2) cardio 3x's a week, weight training 3x's a week.
3) once a week challenge. Something I would not normally do.
4) pray for discipline and to "Hoe to the end of the row"
5) Try to learn I don't have to be perfect, just never, never, never give up!

Ok guys, I've set up this blog so that we all have the ability to post. We can each add our weekly weigh-in as well as add other tips or tricks that will aid us in our weight loss journey.
